I wanted to make some kind of variation on an akvavit sour without using any simple syrup. The sweetness of the liqueurs is plenty, and the herbal qualities of the Bescherovka and Bénédictine work great with Akvavit’s caraway notes.
The luxurious flavor in the background is white creme de cacao. Don’t be scared of creme de cacao! Even though it’s typically associated with creamy sweet cocktails, white creme de cacao can add a beautifully subtle sweetness to your cocktails when used in the right proportions.
The BBW requires a few not-so-common bottles, but once you have all the ingredients it’s a simple recipe with a beautiful depth of flavor. If you don’t have access to Bescherovka or Bénédictine, try swapping in a light amaro like Amaro Montenegro or even something more herbal, like yellow Chartreuse.
I used Fee Brother’s Fee Foam to get the nice velvety texture on top. You can also use egg white or skip this altogether if you don’t care about foam.
